The work shown on this carving website includes original wood carvings, which have been used for reproduction castings. Recently Jose has been busy creating original wood carvings for Selby Stone a company that makes artificial stone figures for retail sale from the carved wood originals. Jose has carved several items in wood for the purpose of making moulds, which then are used to make artificial stone figures. These figures are all Jose’s interpretations, for example the classic pineapple and Buddha. Amongst his work, Jose has designed and carved 3 statues, 3 maids doing 3 different duties, he has also carved a figure of a cat and an acorn. The other piece highlighted in this section is the original woodcarving for the Mansion House in the centre of York, which is then cast in bronze and gold plated. Carving for casting requires specialist skills to ensure that original carving is carved in such a way so as to allow the mould and the original item to be easily separated without damage either to the carving or the mould.
